Man Out of Time

Certain songs just take you back...

Eric Whittle has had a bad year; his wife has left him for another woman, his children are not talking to him, he's lost his job. Depressed, he seeks refuge in the bottom of a whisky bottle and his Elvis Costello record collection.

When best friend Mike Bradley drags him along to see a performance by TV celebrity and self-styled 'Psychic illusionist' Aloysius Riviera, it is a decision that they will both soon regret. Riviera is no ordinary TV celebrity; the man has hidden depths. When a cynically drunk  Eric publicly ridicules his act, he soon discovers he has badly under-estimated the performer's talents.

Now, each time Eric listens to a nostalgic song from his record collection, he finds himself plunged back to the time he associates with that song. If that's not bizarre enough, he finds to his utter horror, that actions he takes whilst undertaking these 'trips' through time have a profound effect on his present-day life.

Suddenly, back in the present day, he's married to another woman and his children don't exist. Alarmed, he tries to go back to undo the damage. However, changing things back proves more difficult than he imagines  and the more he meddles in the past, the more complicated the situation becomes. Before he knows it, Eric's life is spiralling dangerously out of control.

He Flicked, He Scored

Teenager Callum O’ Brien has the jitters. He has the jitters about school; the jitters about his parents’ constant arguments; the jitters about the gorgeous girl next door and the jitters about his cocky mate Barry. Callum O’Brien has the jitters about his Grandad’s health, his Dad’s job, his taste in 80’s Music; his choice of bedroom wall posters. He has the jitters about going to watch his football team; he even has jitters about leaving the house. The only thing that keeps him from having the jitters is playing Subbuteo on his own and ensuring his hero, Peter ‘Wardy’ Ward of Brighton and Hove Albion reaches the FA Cup Final; even if it is only on his Subbuteo table.

Does Everyone Stare The Way I Do? (Sting's in Tales Book 1)

Girls think Sting’s a hunk….he’s got great cheek bones. I practised my Sting impersonation in the bedroom mirror… sucking my cheeks in so hard my face started to ache and now I had a mouth ulcer. I winced when Alison kissed me. Sting could keep his ruddy handsome cheekbones!’

In 1978, shy, unassuming teenager Tim James is obsessed with four charismatic blondes; the three members of The Police, the hottest band on the planet and Alison, the most achingly gorgeous girl in his class… But the course of teenage love seldom runs true. Soon realising that Alison prefers his best friend, Tim reluctantly turns his attention to her mate … and in doing so, unwittingly puts himself on a collision course with the school’s biggest bully …. Poignant and bittersweet with a ‘Sting’ in the tale, recalling the pleasure and pain of growing up in the New-Wave era.’

Every Little Thing She Does (Sting's in Tales Book 2)

Too many hormones; too many records. It’s tough being a sixth former in 1981. ‘I was becoming a tart. A tart with a fickle heart.’

Back in those heady days of the late seventies, it had seemed so simple to Tim James. He’d always thought he would only ever have two loves; his favourite band The Police, and the beautiful, but oh-so unobtainable, Alison Fisher. But now it’s the eighties and there’s so many new loves for Tim to choose from; Sting has to compete with Dexy’s Midnight Runners, The Jam and Spandau Ballet. And Alison’s got rivals too. For starters, there’s the gorgeous red head behind the counter in the local HMV; And then there’s his sister’s sexy workmate; the one with those mini-skirts and the all year round tan. Life just got complicated for the hero of ‘Does Everyone Stare The way I Do?’
