Eric Whittle has had a bad year; his wife has left him for another woman, his children are not talking to him, he’s lost his job. Depressed, he seeks refuge in the bottom of a whisky bottle and his Elvis Costello record collection.
When best friend Mike Bradley drags him along to see a performance by TV celebrity and self-styled ‘Psychic illusionist’ Aloysius Riviera, it is a decision that they will both soon regret. Riviera is no ordinary TV celebrity; the man has hidden depths. When a cynically drunk Eric publicly ridicules his act, he soon discovers he has badly under-estimated the performer’s talents.
Now, each time Eric listens to a nostalgic song from his record collection, he finds himself plunged back to the time he associates with that song. If that’s not bizarre enough, he finds to his utter horror, that actions he takes whilst undertaking these ‘trips’ through time have a profound effect on his present-day life.
Suddenly, back in the present day, he’s married to another woman and his children don’t exist. Alarmed, he tries to go back to undo the damage. However, changing things back proves more difficult than he imagines and the more he meddles in the past, the more complicated the situation becomes. Before he knows it, Eric’s life is spiralling dangerously out of control.
